Some members of the winning team, who devised an online community platform available on cellphones called, Kindness Ripple, were already aware of the widespread problem. In the end, their teamwork produced Kindness Ripple, an app that provides support to those in need, and motivates users to create a ripple effect by passing on acts of kindness to others along the chain. Through Kindness Ripple, users can send anonymous letters of support to break down the walls of isolation. To promote engagement with Kindness Ripple over long periods, the team turned participation into a game.
