Hyderabad: Nearly 450 students of National Academy of Legal Studies and Research (NALSAR) have urged the university to reconsider inviting Chief Justice Surya Kant as the chief guest for the 2026 convocation. The first letter was issued by a batch of 70 students on July 23, 2026, stating that the students wanted another chief guest for their convocation ceremony. After that, four more letters were issued by 380 students who opposed CJI Surya Kant as the chief guest at the University. According to tradition, every year the sitting CJI is the chief guest of the convocation ceremony in the University. Controversial public remarks: The representations cited previous remarks attributed to Justice Surya Kant during a May hearing regarding fraudulent law degrees, where references to certain youth were interpreted as calling young citizens "parasites and cockroaches".
