The woman, 20, was taking part in an orienteering event when she caught her ankle in a hole, sustaining an injury. Keswick Mountain Rescue Team (MRT) was called out to the incident at 12.46pm on August 3, but with limited volunteers available and facing a challenging extraction from the Bessy Boot summit, support was requested from Penrith MRT and the Coastguard helicopter Rescue 897 based in Carlisle. A spokesperson for Keswick MRT said: "As Keswick team were making their way up the Stanger Gill 'stair master' path from Stonethwaite campsite, we were pleased to hear that Rescue 897 had winched the casualty and agreed to take her back to Crow Park in Keswick, where she was received by the Penrith team." Keswick MRT mobilised 13 team members to the incident while Penrith MRT sent five. It lasted two hours and 19 minutes.
