The first of two 9,000-ton ultra-large die casting machines supplied by a Chinese manufacturer is expected to be delivered shortly.
The Shanghai Gigafactory is Lexus' first wholly foreign-owned manufacturing facility dedicated exclusively to battery-electric vehicles.
Following Tesla's Shanghai Gigafactory, it is only the second wholly foreign-owned automotive manufacturing plant in China.
Series production of the first battery-electric Lexus models from the Shanghai plant is scheduled to begin in 2027.
