The Lagos State House of Assembly on Monday called for urgent measures to curb the rising vandalism of public infrastructure across the state.
The lawmakers’ intervention came after 30 suspected vandals were sentenced to two months’ imprisonment each for vandalising bridges across Lagos.
The sentencing came amid renewed concern over the safety implications of scavengers extracting structural materials from public infrastructure.
The Speaker called for improved standards and increased capacity within the Lagos State Neighbourhood Safety Corps to strengthen infrastructure protection.
The Assembly reiterated its commitment to working with the executive to strengthen enforcement mechanisms and ensure effective implementation of existing laws.
