A basement fire in Lapeer County is believed to have killed two pets, with the rest of the home’s occupants able to safely escape the Wednesday basement blaze. Firefighters initiated an aggressive interior fire attack, bringing the fire under control in approximately 20 minutes. They still remained on scene for another two hours to extinguish remaining hot spots and complete overhaul operations. The home sustained minor structural damage as a result of the fire, with severe smoke damage also reported across the entire home. They were also assisted by Lapeer County EMS, the Lapeer County Sheriff’s Office, and Lapeer County Central Dispatch.
