More residents in the Loma Vista area of Big Sur, in Monterey County, were told to evacuate Monday afternoon as the Timber Fire burning to the east reached about 1,300 acres. Residents in the surrounding areas of state Highway 1 should be prepared to leave immediately if an order is given. A temporary evacuation point was established by the county's Department of Emergency Management at the California State Parks Big Sur Station / Multi-Agency Facility, located at 47555 Highway 1. It was opened Monday and will be available from midnight to 7 p.m. each day through Thursday, or until evacuation orders are lifted, according to the county. The temporary evacuation point serves as a location to get information and coordinate next steps, according to a statement from the county.
