Can anyone advise me on the best career pathway to obtaining a UK CAA B1.1 licenceI am 19 years old and based in Leicester, UK. I am looking to start a career in commercial aircraft maintenance and would really appreciate advice from experienced aircraft mechanics, technicians or licensed engineers.I completed A-levels in Mathematics, Physics and Computer Science in 2025. I have previously applied for aircraft engineering/maintenance apprenticeships but unfortunately have not been successful so far. I am also trying to understand how best to gain the practical aircraft maintenance experience required for the licence while studying.My long-term goal is to become a B1.1 Licensed Aircraft Engineer and eventually work for a major international airline, ideally Qatar Airways, Emirates or another Gulf carrier. I'm particularly interested in hearing from people who have taken a non-apprenticeship route into aircraft maintenance.
