Save the Michaels of the World has sued its founder and former CEO Avi Israel, alleging he pocketed over $1 million intended for use by the addiction services nonprofit. Save the Michaels was founded by Avi and his wife Julie in 2012, following the suicide of their son, Michael, during opioid withdrawal. Using Save the Michaels employees to conduct “personal repairs” in his home, a practice that continues to this day. Save the Michaels maintains that Israel’s position was never written in a contract “and therefore no such position actually existed.” The latest lawsuit holds Israel responsible for the downfall of Save the Michaels and its consequences.
