Bulgarian authorities dismantled the country’s first documented fentanyl manufacturing facility on Tuesday and arrested three suspects on location, the General Directorate for Combating Organised Crime said.
The lab was located in the Sofia far-end neighbourhood of Fakulteta.
In June, 11 people were arrested for fentanyl possession in the same neighbourhood.
Illicitly manufactured fentanyl has flooded the illegal drug market in North America and other regions, including Europe.
On June 10, a report by the European Union Drug Agency indicated that from 2024 to 2025 there were more than 100 cases of overdoses in Bulgaria caused by fentanyl.
