Gitanyow’s first dedicated Elders housing project is nearing completion, creating new opportunities for community members to age in place or return home. Xsi’Gintaiyin Elders Housing was developed after years of observing the accessibility needs of Gitanyow’s aging population. Beverly Russell, manager of the Sindihl House of Learning, says community input played an important role in shaping the project. The project received support from Gitanyow Hereditary Chiefs, BC Housing, Gitanyow Band Council and Gitanyow Human Services. Applications are now open, with preference given to Elders 55 and older, Gitanyow Wilp members, Gitanyow Band members and Gitanyow community members.
