The Texas Rangers placed right-hander Nathan Eovaldi on the 15-day injured list on Monday due to right posterior elbow inflammation. Eovaldi, 36, fared well in his last outing as he allowed four hits and one run over 5 1/3 innings on Friday against the Baltimore Orioles. Eovaldi has produced a 10-9 record and a 4.21 ERA in 22 starts this season with 137 strikeouts over 132 2/3 innings. To fill his spot on the active roster, Texas recalled right-hander Ben Peoples from Triple-A Round Rock. The Rangers enter Monday’s game against the Los Angeles Angels trailing the Houston Astros by half a game in the American League West.
