Florida Attorney General James Uthmeier (R) threatened to charge WNBA players with assault after a hard foul against star Indiana Fever player Sophie Cunningham over the weekend. Cunningham has been at the center of controversy in recent weeks over her comments pushing back on transgender athletes in women’s sports. “The WNBA knows better than to play games down here in Florida, because I’ll be charging people with assault,” Uthmeier wrote in his post responding to a video of the play. The WNBA said over the weekend it would review its eligibility policies in response to the recent debate about transgender athletes in women’s sports.
