The shear zone comprises a sequence of mafic gneiss, hornfelsic gneiss with migmatitic textures, dolerite and associated felsic veins. A recent reinterpretation of high-resolution magnetic data completed by Southern Geoscience in November 2025 identifies a distinct magnetic anomaly coincident with the historical Pithara pit.
