Halton Region reports synthetic opioid found among drug supply
['Cameron Wilkinson']
d1973
Halton Region Public Health is warning clinicians, hospitals, naloxone providers, community partners and residents that nitazene, a highly potent synthetic opioid, has been detected in the region’s unregulated drug supply.
The warning follows information provided through Halton’s opioid overdose early warning system, which involves collaboration between Halton Region, police, fire departments, hospitals and community partners.
Public Health was advised that counterfeit opioids containing nitazene were seized from a residence in North Halton.
Public Health also advises people not to use opioids alone and to be aware that unregulated drugs may contain other substances.
