Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni and Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen have reaffirmed their opposition to what they described as “uncontrolled immigration,” calling for tougher measures against illegal migration and the creation of return centers in countries outside Europe. Meloni and Frederiksen are currently the only women serving as prime ministers of European Union governments. “We do not accept uncontrolled immigration into Europe, and we have promoted a rigorous migration policy, both in our own countries and across Europe,” Meloni said in a Facebook post accompanying the statement. “We need to set up repatriation centres in third countries, as well as other innovative solutions outside Europe. Meloni and Frederiksen said, however, that return arrangements alone would not resolve the wider migration challenge.
