It sounds like your friend has a landline number. She can't port a landline number to a mobile. She could port it to a Voice over IP (VoIP) service, and use a VoIP client on her mobile. When away she would still be able to receive and place calls when using mobile data. Perhaps get rid of it, keeping the broadband service and using the mobile number only.
