Yucatán Government Clarifies “Las Dunas” File and Confirms Federal Environmental Review
['Yucatan Times']
The Yucatan Times
MÉRIDA, Mexico — The Government of Yucatán has detailed the complete administrative file for “Las Dunas,” a controversial real estate project in Chuburná Puerto, confirming that federal environmental authorities SEMARNAT and PROFEPA are actively reviewing the site to protect coastal wetlands and dunes.
This protected zone includes 55,305 square meters of coastal wetlands, 3,435 square meters of Federal Maritime-Terrestrial Zone, and mangrove habitats protected under official Mexican standards (NOM-022-SEMARNAT-2003), all of which must remain entirely free from construction.
Jurisdiction over environmental impact statements (MIA) rests exclusively with the federal ministry SEMARNAT.
The clarification follows recent enforcement actions by PROFEPA, Mexico’s federal environmental protection agency.
The state government is coordinating with federal authorities to ensure full compliance with environmental regulations and prevent permanent damage to the delicate coastal ecosystem.
