MÉRIDA, YUCATAN — Officers from the Public Security Secretariat (SSP) intervened to rescue a woman threatened at knifepoint by her husband in Mérida’s Mercedes Barrera neighborhood, preventing a potential femicide. Upon arrival, officers discovered the suspect actively holding the victim at knifepoint. SSP agents initially attempted to de-escalate the situation using verbal commands to persuade the man to drop his weapon and release the woman. Facing an immediate threat, the officer fired his service weapon to neutralize the aggressor. Paramedics stabilized the attacker at the scene before transferring him to a medical facility under heavy police custody.
