MÉRIDA, Yucatán, August 4, 2026.— A fire that broke out inside an apartment in the San Marcos Sustentable neighborhood of Mérida was promptly brought under control by firefighters from the Secretariat of Public Security (SSP); no injuries were reported.
According to available information, the property owner was at work when neighbors alerted him that smoke was coming from his apartment.
Upon arriving at the scene, authorities confirmed the fire was concentrated in one room, where various personal items sustained damage.
SSP firefighters extinguished the blaze and prevented the flames from spreading to other areas of the building or to adjacent apartments.
The Secretariat of Public Security urges the public to periodically inspect their home electrical systems and avoid overloading outlets or extension cords.
