MALAYSIA: A 3.03bn ringgit railway systems contract for the 23·7 km Penang LRT Mutiara medium capacity metro line has been awarded to a joint venture of local companies Malaysian Resources Corp (90%) and Theta Edge (10%).
The turnkey contract provides for the supply and maintenance, procurement, design, construction, testing and commissioning of railway systems, including signalling, power supply, telecommunications and ticketing equipment.
The contract was announced on August 7 and has a term of five years and nine months.
Construction of the Mutiara Line was officially launched in January 2025.
It will run along Penang Island from Penang South Reclamation Project Island A to Komtar in George Town, serving 19 stations.
