TAIWAN: The Brown Line metro project in Taoyuan has been launched with a groundbreaking ceremony, as a consortium of ST Engineering and Hyundai Rotem announced the award of a systems and rolling stock contract.
Preliminary works started on Taoyuan MRT Brown Line with a ceremony on July 9.
The 11.4 km Brown Line will feature seven stations, linking the Huilong terminus of the Orange metro line in the west of New Taipei to the Pingzhen area in central Taoyuan.
On July 28, a consortium of Singapore’s ST Engineering and South Korea’s Hyundai Rotem was awarded a S$840m turnkey rail services contract.
The systems and rolling stock contract is to take effect in the fourth quarter of this year and be delivered by late-2034.
