The council has a six-week consultation on the change from now until Wednesday, September 16. High Street, in Northwich, already has a no left turn restriction and Chapel Street, in Wincham, already has a seven-and-a-half-tonne weight restriction. The council's idea is to introduce automatic number plate recognition cameras to implement its enforcement powers under the Traffic Management Act. The first four locations had around 1,640 offences in a four-week period in June 2024 and around 380 offences in a four-week period in June 2026. Cllr Bingham said this was a sign motorists were adapting behaviour and adhering better to the traffic restrictions in Chester and in Ellesmere Port.
