OUT AND ABOUT: A great Wallowas peak that deserves a name
['Jayson Jaco', 'Baker City Herald']
Baker City Herald
(Lisa Britton/Baker City Herald)The peak that towers above Traverse Lake, in the Wallowa Mountains northeast of Baker City, is unnamed.
And although such matters are of course inherently subjective, I think the Traverse Lake peak is equally deserving of such odes as a budding poet might pen in tribute.
The West Eagle Trail is one of the great paths in the Wallowas.
Few trails boast as many switchbacks as the West Eagle Trail.
Among local conifers, only the whitebark and limber pine, and the subalpine fir, can survive in such places as Wonker Pass.
