Armenia’s Foreign Ministery said on Monday that it has extended a verbal invitation to meet with Veronica Zonabend, the wife of former Artsakh State Minister Ruben Vardanyan, who is currently serving a 20-year jail sentence in Baku. Zonabend has called for the formation of a humanitarian delegation of women to visit Armenians held in prison in Baku. Asked who, specifically, would meet with Zonabend, Badalyan, the foreign ministry spokesperson, said that “the meeting will be organized jointly by the relevant government agencies.” Ten days after Zonabend’s latest letter to Pashinyan, sent on July 30, Armenia’s foreign policy agency has, in effect, established contact with her. Armenian authorities have repeatedly stated that they are working on a daily basis to secure the return of the 19 Armenian prisoners held in Baku.
