The BC Wildfire Service says off-road vehicles are banned on Crown land in the Coastal Fire Centre because of wildfire risk. There are exceptions in the North Island, mid-Island and Sunshine Coast areas. Off-road vehicles remain permitted in the following areas:Portions of the South Island Forest District, including the Regional District of Nanaimo and Regional District of Alberni-ClayoquotNorth Island Central Coast Forest DistrictCampbell River Forest DistrictSunshine Coast Forest District“Given the scope and scale of fires currently burning in B.C. and the elevated danger ratings in many southern regions of the province, this prohibition is being put into place to further protect public safety,” the BC Wildfire Service said. It will remain in effect until noon Oct. 9, or until the order is rescinded.
