Wait Creek wildfire evacuation update and travel advisoryResidents across the Kootenay region are advised that the Regional District of East Kootenay has partially downgraded evacuation orders issued because of the Wait Creek wildfire. An evacuation alert is now in effect for a limited number of properties in the Wasa Lake, Lazy Lake, Meadowbrook and parts of the Ta Ta Creek area that are farther from the fire. The evacuation order remains in effect for properties closest to the wildfire in the Ta Ta Creek area. Residents should check the Regional District of East Kootenay’s evacuation map to confirm whether their property remains under an evacuation order or has been downgraded to an evacuation alert. The BC Wildfire Service continues to classify the Wait Creek wildfire as a Fire of Note and is providing regular updates.
