A bridge over the Flint River on Highway 61 has been dedicated in honor of longtime Burlington community leader Dan Wiedemeier. Wiedemeier’s wife, Marcia, and members of the community gathered Friday at the Greater Burlington Partnership for the unveiling of a sign bearing his name. Longtime friend Dave Vavroch called Wiedemeier a mentor and someone who was admired by those around him. Wiedemeier also served on the Iowa Transportation Commission after being appointed by Governor Branstad in 1994, including as chairman from 2000 to 2001. He also held leadership roles with numerous local organizations, including Des Moines County Conservation, Burlington Kiwanis and the Great River Medical Center board.
