Liwonde Police, through the Mangochi Turn Off Police Unit, have arrested a 30-year-old hotel cleaner, Rabbeca Selemani, on allegations of stealing K2,754,100 from a guest at her workplace.
Confirming the arrest, Liwonde Police Station Public Relations Officer Sergeant Ngwashape Msumme said the incident occurred on August 10, 2026, at Liwonde Sun Hotel, located at Mangochi Turn Off.
However, at around 10:00 p.m., she discovered that her money had been stolen and subsequently reported the matter to Mangochi Turn Off Police Unit.
The stolen cash comprised K1,878,500 in Malawi Kwacha and US$502, valued at K875,600, bringing the total amount to K2,754,100.
Following the report, detectives launched investigations and conducted a search at the suspect’s residence, where the entire amount of the stolen money was recovered.
