Just recently, she became the first Filipino to win a singles title on the Women’s Tennis Association (WTA) Tour at the 2026 Mubadala DC Open.
Headquartered in Lausanne, Switzerland, CAS was created in 1984 by the International Olympic Committee (IOC) and is mandated to render impartial decisions on sporting matters.
Athletes may also resort to mediation instead of arbitration, with CAS mediators guiding the parties through informal and non-binding negotiations.
More often, they sign with a national federation, which is itself legally bound by the statutes of its international federation to recognize CAS jurisdiction.
And when those questions become disputes, one court stands above the playing field.
