Public university students are preparing to take their fight over the latest tuition fee increase directly to government. Students’ representative councils from Malawi’s public universities are expected to meet the Ministry of Education and the Students Loans and Grants Board today to present their concerns over the recently announced tuition fee hike. The meeting brings together presidents and general secretaries of Students’ Representative Councils (SRCs) from all public universities, who say they will formally present students’ concerns, sentiments and expectations regarding the fee increase. They have also pledged to continue engaging government constructively to ensure that students’ concerns are adequately represented. The development comes amid growing concern among students over the impact of increased tuition fees on access to public university education.
