The OPP laid 42 charges and issued 56 warnings while patrolling waterways and trail networks during the Civic Holiday long weekend. According to police, the OPP Snowmobile, All-Terrain Vehicle and Vessel Enforcement (SAVE) Unit conducted marine and off-road vehicle patrols and enforcement operations across several areas, including Algonquin Park, Georgian Bay, Lake Rosseau, Lake Joseph, and surrounding areas in Huntsville, Bracebridge, and Southern Georgian Bay, among others. Police said more than half of the charges issued during the enforcement initiative involved alcohol-related offences and life jacket violations. Other violations included towing a person without a spotter, failing to wear a helmet, and fishing without a licence. In addition to the violations and charges laid, the OPP said officers issued two seven-day driver’s licence suspensions as part of impaired operation investigations.
