The Ontario Provincial Police laid 8,240 charges during patrols on roads, trails and waterways across the province over the Civic holiday long weekend.
According to police, the enforcement campaign resulted in 3,921 speeding charges, 579 seatbelt charges, 188 impaired driving charges and 77 distracted driving charges.
Officers also enforced Ontario’s Move Over law — with drivers mandated to slow down and move over for emergency vehicles, tow trucks and other vehicles with emergency lights activated.
Police say 128 charges relating to the Move Over Law were laid.
