The Script Keepers Network—co-led by Pippa Steele (Faculty of Classics and the VIEWS Project) and Tim Brookes (Endangered Alphabets Project)—has been awarded the prestigious NCACE Emerging Academic Cultural Collaboration Award by the National Centre for Academic and Cultural Exchange. The award recognises outstanding, impactful partnerships between higher education researchers and cultural organisations. Operating alongside the Faculty’s VIEWS (Visual Interactions in Early Writing Systems) project, the network connects researchers, typographers, artists, and community activists to safeguard, digitise, and revitalise endangered writing systems worldwide. The panel commended the initiative for demonstrating how research into ancient Mediterranean writing systems can directly inform modern strategies to preserve living cultural heritage and empower communities fighting to maintain their written traditions.
