While they offer contrasting visions for data centers, neither has embraced a full halt in construction desired by advocates. Brown has called to end the data center tax breaks and says that local communities should have a say on whether to allow data center construction. The proposals are also backed by a major data center lobbying group and tech companies like Microsoft that own data centers. A 10-gigawatt data center project in Piketon — expected to be the largest data center in the world — will be powered by a new $33.3 billion natural gas plant.
