Author Eli Greenbaum will speak about his book Hell, No, We Didn’t Go: Firsthand Accounts of Vietnam War Protest and Resistance at the Nelson Public Library on Saturday, Aug. 15.
Many Americans who opposed the war settled in the West Kootenay between 1965 and 1973.
Gerald Gioglio, writing in the Vietnam Veterans Against the War newsletter, said: “I encourage you to get a copy of Eli Greenbaum’s work.
Gioglio adds that the Vietnam War is as distant for Generation Z as the First World War was for young men during the Vietnam War era.
historian Ron Verzuh wrote in a review published by rabble.ca: “Eli Greenbaum has opened the door to a renewed understanding of the pain, sorrow and sheer chutzpah of some of the men who defiantly chose not to go.”
