“It is a significant investment requirement, but I would not say it is out of reach for the Philippines. The key is making sure the investment, grid development and policy reforms move together,” Trigya Singh, head of corporate sourcing at GRA, told Eco-Business. “The opportunity is also growing because electricity demand is changing, while the Philippines is scaling up its clean energy ambitions. Data centres and other large industrial users need reliable electricity around the clock, and globally this demand is growing very quickly,” added Singh. Although the principles could help the Philippines make grid projects more financeable, they do not provide money or approve projects themselves.
