The court directed the remaining states and UTs to consider the recommendations and take appropriate decisions.
The bench questioned the Centre on why mandatory guidelines could not be issued for all states and UTs to ensure a uniform policy.
The Supreme Court had on December 12 last year sought responses from the Centre and all states and UTs on the plea.
The petition has sought mandatory nationwide reporting of cancer cases and a unified, real-time digital cancer registry integrated with the National Cancer Registry Programme, hospital databases, insurance schemes and mortality records.
The plea has further sought nationwide cancer screening and stronger measures to prevent patients from being misled by unscientific cancer treatments.
