Heading to the Great Wall by high-speed rail? Starting August 11, passengers traveling to or from Badaling Great Wall Station on the Beijing–Zhangjiakou High-Speed Railway can visit the Zhan Tianyou Memorial Museum for free on the day of travel, simply by showing their ticket confirmation. Visitors step off the modern Beijing–Zhangjiakou High-Speed Railway, designed for speeds of up to 350km/h, and minutes later find themselves looking at engineering drawings from a railway era when trains traveled at around 35km/h. The museum is open Tuesday to Sunday, 9am–4.30pm, and closed Mondays except public holidays. The offer applies to high-speed rail tickets for Badaling Great Wall Station, regardless of whether you’re arriving or departing.
