The University of Pittsburgh ended its lease with the Hampton Inn for the 2026-2027 academic year, removing an upperclassmen dorm option for many students. The University began leasing the Hampton Inn at 3315 Hamlet St. during the fall 2025 semester. Due to disconnection from the rest of Pitt’s campus, many first-year students disliked their experience residing in the Hampton Inn last academic year. Upperclassmen were assigned to the Hampton Inn for the 2026-2027 academic year, which may have eliminated the complaints and safety concerns of first-year students. However, the Hampton Inn was an expensive student housing option.
