Bengal cricketer and IPL player Abhishek Porel was arrested on Tuesday in connection with a case of rape, assault, and criminal intimidation filed by a medical student from Karnataka. According to police, Porel was taken into custody from Emami City under Dum Dum police station limits and later produced before the Chinsurah Court after undergoing medical examination. The complaint, lodged in June 2026, alleged that Porel engaged in a sexual relationship under the false promise of marriage, subjected the survivor to assault, intimidation, and illegal confinement, and denied her food, leaving her physically weak. Porel, who made his first‑class debut for Bengal in the 2021‑22 season, has played 32 first‑class and 23 List A matches. The arrest has sent shockwaves through Bengal’s cricketing circles and the IPL fraternity, with investigations continuing into the allegations.
