South Africa’s Banyana Banyana have expressed their readiness to achieve their target of securing the World Cup ticket, after falling 1-2 to Morocco’s Atlas Lionesses in their Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) quarterfinal fixture in Rabat on Saturday. Defending champions, Nigeria, were equally stunned by the Indomitable Lionesses 1-0 on Sunday evening, as the Super Falcons are now on the verge of missing the FIFA Women’s World Cup for the first time. Recall that Nigeria are among the only seven countries to have featured in every Women’s World Cup since its introduction in 1991. The winners of the play-in matches will advance to the inter-confederation playoffs with nine other teams to fight for the 2027 World Cup tickets. We’ll try our best to win the play-offs, because we still have a chance to qualify for the World Cup.
