The exchange was heard on the recording played in court, with Theuma identifying the words being said. The recordings are among the key pieces of evidence in the case because they capture private conversations between Fenech and Theuma after the 2017 assassination of Daphne Caruana Galizia. Theuma secretly recorded his conversations with Fenech after becoming increasingly fearful about the situation surrounding the murder and the pressure he was under from the men involved. Theuma told the court he was particularly anxious about his son, adding that Fenech would ease his mind whenever he worried about losing him as a result of the situation.
