If you’re like me and grew up in the 1980s, there’s a decent chance you’ve seen Sixteen Candles a few times (or a few hundred times).
That has been discussed a lot, but what I never knew until just recently is what happened to Michael Schoeffling, the actor who played Sam’s crush, Jake Ryan.
In addition to Sixteen Candles, he starred in a few well-received movies that any Gen Xer could quickly identify.
Other actors who had their breakouts in Sixteen Candles, like Molly Ringwald, Anthony Michael Hall, and John Cusack, are still acting today, but Schoeffling completely disappeared from the scene.
In the meantime, I just found out I can stream Sixteen Candles, still one of the best high school movies ever, with my YouTube TV subscription, so I know what I’m doing tonight.
