No Indonesians affected in Colombia earthquake, ministry confirmsRelated news: Indonesian ambassador invited to observe Colombia election runoffRelated news: BNN meets Colombian ART to discuss handling illegal plantsJakarta (ANTARA) -Indonesia's Foreign Ministry confirmed that no Indonesians were among the casualties in the 7.4-magnitude earthquake that rattled Colombia on Monday (August 10).The ministry's director for the protection of Indonesian nationals, Heni Hamidah, stated the Indonesian Embassy in Colombia has maintained communication with Indonesians since the quake.
"According to the embassy observation, all Indonesians in Colombia are reported safe," Hamidah stated in her remarks on Tuesday.She confirmed the Colombian government has established a national emergency response mechanism and an integrated command center to coordinate rescue operations and assess damage in affected areas.Meanwhile, the embassy will continue monitoring the situation and coordinating with Indonesians in the country, for whom it has issued a safety advisory.Indonesians in Colombia are advised to remain alert, follow local authorities’ instructions, monitor updates from official sources, and maintain communication with the embassy, she said.In the emergency situations, Indonesians in Colombia can contact the embassy through the +57 301 9061706 hotline.The Monday earthquake struck near San Jose del Palmar in the Choco region, located roughly 400 kilometers west of Colombia’s capital, Bogota, at a depth of about 107 kilometers (66 miles), according to the US Geological Survey, as reported by Anadolu.Besides Bogota, other regions in Colombia reported to be affected by the 7.4-magnitude quake were Cali, Medellin, Pereira, Manizales, and Ibague.
At least 111 people were killed and 87 injured in the earthquake.According to preliminary information, the earthquake damaged 1,575 residential buildings and 61 were completely destroyed.
Among the damaged buildings were 18 medical facilities, 52 educational institutions, 18 road sections, and seven airports.Colombia's President Abelardo De La Espriella has declared the earthquake as a national disaster to support resource mobilisation for rescue operations.
