The Town of Ulster Town Board voted unanimously, 4-0, to adopt a resolution demanding that Ulster County immediately cease all new emergency housing placements at the Kingston Motel during its Aug. 6 meeting.
Between Jan. 1 and June 26, 2026, the department recorded 303 total calls for service at the Kingston Motel, averaging roughly 11.7 calls per week.
Councilwoman Laura Hartmann shared personal observations from her own visit to the Kingston Motel, calling the living conditions devastating.
The town’s friction with the Kingston Motel is not new, as municipal officials have grappled with site issues for four to five years.
First, it calls for an immediate freeze on all new emergency shelter placements at the Kingston Motel.
