New Paltz’s lawmaking officials agreed to allow voters to democratically decide if they wish to consolidate their two local governments, by a vote of seven to three.
Come November 3, if a majority of village residents vote “yes” on the referendum, and also a majority of town residents not in the village, then the joint consolidation plan will be put into effect as written.
That agreement lays out the steps that will be taken to fold village operations into the town system.
That’s because Rogers has observed the amount of time employees devote to complying with rules about working together across governments.
The deadline to register to vote is October 24, with early voting starting that day and running through November 1.
