Malta saw a sharp rise in people injured or killed on its roads between April and June, with road traffic casualties increasing by 16% compared to the same period last year. New figures released by the National Statistics Office show that 398 people became road traffic casualties in the second quarter of 2026, up from 343 between April and June 2025. A total of 4,072 road traffic accidents were reported during the three-month period, just 1.1% more than the 4,026 recorded a year earlier. Of the 398 casualties, 146 suffered grievous injuries, 222 suffered slight injuries and another 27 sustained insignificant injuries. Despite the overall surge in casualties, this was down from five road deaths during the same three months of 2025.
