Despite Square Enix still in the trenches with development on Final Fantasy VII Revelation, rumours have persisted that a remake of Final Fantasy IX isn't too far behind. Unfortunately, according to a comment from Alex Donaldson (Editor, RPG Site) over on Reset Era, development on the remake is "no longer moving forward". "IE, there was an FF9 remake, and it was a single game, and it was very far along. However for various reasons - surely a story for another day - that project stalled out, and it's no longer moving forward. Square Enix, meanwhile, recently posted some pretty strong financial results from Q1 of FY2027, citing the "strong performance" of titles like Final Fantasy VII Rebirth and The Adventures of Elliot: The Millennium Tales.
