Londoners are still piling onto the SL4 bus despite fares going back upThe usual £1.75 fare was introduced on May 27 more than a year after Silvertown Tunnel openedView Image SL4 ridership has increased in 2026 (Image: TfL)More people are using the SL4 bus route despite Sadiq Khan bringing the year-long free trial to an end.
After Silvertown Tunnel opened on April 7, 2025 Londoners could initially travel on the Superloop route between Grove Park and Canary Wharf as an incentive for more drivers to use public transport.
Between May 27 and June 27 some 211,786 passengers travelled on the SL4, compared to 202,685 over the same month in 2025.
Increasing cross-river bus journeys from six per hour to 21 was a key factor in Sir Sadiq's push to open Silvertown Tunnel last year.
The Silvertown Tunnel is already transforming travel across the Thames as we continue building a greener, fairer, better London for everyone."
